Note: Debian is OK for a start, but I recommend OpenSUSE, or something Arch based (like Antergos or Manjaro).
If you wan't a distro for hacking or pentesting then use Kali (more support) or Antergos + Blackarch/ArchStrike (I find this to be better than Kali)
If you need stability then go with OpenSUSE, beats Debian any day!
Other Note: Don't even think about Ubuntu (or derivitives) (I find it to be unstable and bloated)
