Why do you need surgery if I may ask?

So anyone else that reads this can understand (I will edit it this once i go upstairs and find the paperwork) but basically i have an extra navicular bone in my right foot that rubs against the tendon. So when i run well you could imagine the amount of pain i get, My foot sometimes gets swollen and i have laid on the grass in pain not been able to do anything after running 2.4km.
