Arch is one of the best distributions, but one of the worst if you're new to linux...If you have no clue what you're doing then go vanilla debian and work to arch.

Arch is definitely one of the better distributions, but it's also a bit too bleeding edge for most users. It's definitely not the beginner distro, either. It really comes down to what you're looking for, though.
