IMO its a HUGE deal that the supreme court ruled in favor of gay marriage. This is perhaps the greatest single civil liberties ruling in decades. As a libertarian you should be proud!

It was hard enough to get gay marriage, something so socially acceptable today, to become legal on a federal level. Yes progress still needs to be made in regards to individual liberties, but baby steps need to be taken. It takes years for social acceptance to come, and even longer for legislative change to follow. Also fuck outta here with that "omg its so hard to buy a gun now" shit... go to any firearms convention and you can pickup a semi auto assault rifle without a background check.

Background checks are a good example of exactly what I'm talking about. There is overwhelming public support for background checks to be enforced during gun purchases (unless you deem Politifact as liberal propaganda!!!!), however the federal government and many state legislators have not done anything to enforce them. Just because it has public support/social acceptance doesn't mean the government will do shit, at least for the time being.

I agree with most of what you said except:

says "semi auto assault rifle" and expects to be taken seriously on a firearms topic.

By definition semi auto can't be an assault weapon. The media has warped the definition of an "assault" weapon to include rifles that have scary black plastic parts, because that some how magically makes them more dangerous.

Otherwise I think favorably of what you've said.

I don't want to derail this thread to much from the subject of gay marriage in the US. Personally I think this is a great event and a very historic time. I look forward to telling those in the future where I was the day I learned of the ruling. Basic human civil rights should not depend on your sexuality, skin color, ability/disability, etc.

A historic event, a great day for freedom lovers. The US is now the 21st country to legalize same sex marriage.
