I would say go with PHP. It's is far more used on websites, just take a look on the 30 biggest websites in the world. If you want to do some serious web development you will have to learn PHP.

For Java. Java isn't used as much as PHP. It is mainly used when creating games, secure applications etc.

So if you want to do some serious web development go with PHP it's a must these days and you won't get a web development job if you cannot write PHP code.
