People do it for E-fame. I don't deface websites unless the admin's a dick, or if it's targeted site(you can be proud of that one).

Same. There is a lot more merit to being able to target a site and deface it. As for doing it to completely random sites, I think it is pathetic unless there's some form of benefit (other than boosting your e-fame).
