There are several ways to get more space on dropbox.
You can refer someone and get 500MB up to 16GB.
They run a contest some years that you can get 1GB of free storage.
They have an iPhone app that allows you to upload pictures and video that will give you up to 3GB if you upload 3GB of data.

I myself have over 17GB on dropbox by the above methods.
