How to Hack - Part One 06-23-2014, 07:28 PM

Yes, you've seen the title. I tried to pick the most skiddy one I could. I've started a small series, teaching people about what hacking actually is, how to become decent, and why not to be a skid.
Let's go over the basics. Hacking isn't what most people think of it as, being uber l33t and getting into systems to wreak havoc with your little laptop that only has a command line with 60,000 words going down it a second. Hacking is literally to think creatively to get around a block or to improve something. That's not really a good enough definition though, so let me give you an example: life hacks. We've all heard of these, little things you do differently to improve your life. E.G. Ordering chips without salt at a resteraunt in order to get a fresh batch made. However, you've probably not come here to learn about things like that, so let's delve into the world of computer hacking.
"What is a Skid?", you may ask. A Skid, or script kiddie, is an individual who uses programs made by others to 'hack' into or cause havoc on something. Basically, a 9 year old sitting on his/her family computer at home, DDoSing other 9 year olds and then thinking they're l33t. The furthest they've gone with learning is posting "teach me how to hack plz" messages on HF and/or anonymous IRC chats, or searching "How to hack" on YouTube. You do not want to be one of these, but alas, everyone starts off as one.
This is all I have time for today. Hopefully the next one will detail how to start off. I hope you had fun reading this.
