I'm from northern Iraq, a place called Kurdistan, and ever since the ISIS came into Iraq, Kurd have taken over a lot more land that the Iraqi soldiers left.

Also, the Peshmerga (Kurdish soldiers) are actually protecting the Iraqi citizens. Something the Iraqi soldiers were SUPPOSED to do.

Kurdish government > Iraqi government.
Well, I think it's safe to say the Iraqis are pretty incompetent. They'd been given high-grade military hardware by the US, yet they literally just fled the city and left all the weapons to ISIS. Yeah. Also, speaking of Kurdistan, in the Syrian Civil War, the Kurdish area of the country in the north east has been occupied by Kurdish militias and is actually pretty stable, so that's something.
