Blizzard meant to make it hard and long due to the fact that they spend tons on Pandaria, also they think the leveling chain was waaaay too easy in Cataclysm. :-)

It's not necessarily that the leveling was hard, as it was just way to dragged out. The leveling was stupid easy, like always. Just took too long.

Exactly. While cata leveling was too short, mop leveling was far too long. Honestly, I'm willing to bet that if there was a timer where if you played 85-90 two times then the rest of your 85s were automatically 90 (opt - in), that blizzard would get a lot of resubs.
