They are better for some things, but other AVs are better for different things.
I agree malwarebytes is great but for removing and locating viruses at start up. I would recommend WinPatrol.
At startup? As in, before the computer is fully booted to restrict access to files, or for key system files when booted?
For checking newly added programs to start up and checking if you want to remove them.
