2) Pride is meant as in showing off. Looking down upon people. You can take pride in your work etc. as that is not what is meant.

By definition, pride means "a sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect." Wouldn't a more fitting sin be arrogance?

And you cannot be forgiven on your deathbed.

How is that so? Even a serial killer can be 'saved' if he repents sincerely on his deathbed...

Well, the religions were created ages ago so 'pride' was probably translated from something. Or defined another way.
