Been using linux for over 15 years, never needed AV. The people who make viruses target the mass general population which also contains the largest amount of tech illiterate users. This would be Windows where users are most likely setup as administrators and dont think twice before installing potentially risky programs. AV helps to prevent the install of those programs. Linux issue is that it's what runs most of the world's services. Attack vector would be through trusted system/app vulnerabilities that are discovered.  AV doesnt help here

I know AVs are signature based, just thought having a notif on a sus download wouldn't hurt but i understand what you mean to say. executing a rogue shell script or someone exploiting an app's vuln would fuck shit up anyways. thanks.
