I'm the one who has to use a taser and pepper spray from [link redacted] to defend myself. To get a gun in my state, I need to go through a whole process to get a permit to carry firearms. That's a shame.

Across all of America there is less overall crime (assaults, robbery/burglary) when compared to countries like the UK. However, the US has much higher than average homicide rates, which of course are almost always related to guns.

There's pros and cons. As a brit in the states, it's a weird thought, but not one that bothers me day to day. My main concern is that not enough is being done to solve problems around those big media storm shootings. The gut reaction is "ban all guns". Right... but murder is banned and that didn't stop them? So what good is "banning" guns when they're literally everywhere? How are you going to stop people acquiring them?

This is some impressive stuff in the article. I feel like more people should be go on courses for self-dense & how to use guns etc. Some Texans use guns all their lives and know what they're doing, and some own them with little to no knowledge on what they're doing. Perhaps a little more training for this couple and the wife would have been in less danger when outside the gas station. If you chase someone with a gun, you're also putting yourself in danger. Does no harm to be a bit more skilled should someone try to tackle you!
