RE: Do stores care if you steal stuff once in a while? 06-01-2022, 07:02 PM

Used to do it a lot in my youth. There was a blind-spot in the confectionery aisle at my supermarket, so I would fill up my backpack with snacks and drinks, and then sell it all at school the next day lol. I only ever got caught once, ironically for just 1 chocolate bar. But had a lot of near-misses.
I also then worked in retail, and it was clear that a lot of food would just go down as 'wastage' and would be difficult to track what was stolen and what was lost or not reported as wastage. So in terms of being caught through tracking items being stolen, that's unlikely. BUT, you never know when you've been spotted by security, either in person or on CCTV. The one time I did get caught, they had seen me a few times and were waiting for the next visit.
So, stealing a sandwich daily will get you caught eventually, and you'll have no plausible deniability. If you're gonna do it, stick to smaller retail shops without security. Or if they do have security, don't do it in the same place regularly.
