I understand what the EU is trying to do, but the type of charge used is unlikely to make the change to electronic waste where it's needed. The real problem is the fact if something is even slightly broken, we throw it away. Until you can change that, you're not going to see a real reduction in electronics waste, surely?
I think Apple has a point, standardisation could well stifle innovation opportunities. However, it's only an EU regulation. If you're that committed to innovation, you could do what the car manufacturers are doing: changing the product by country. Although, naturally, this could cut into profit.
