There's an injustice there of the weight of the crime vs the weight of the punishment. However, if someone from that culture is able to explain the perspective of why it's that way, I'd be more than willing to listen.

I don't think there can be any argument on a basis of culture for a condemnation to death over weed. My understanding is that it's meant to be a deterrent to others but seeing that type of policy actually play out shows it for what it is, barbarism.

I wouldn't say that a culture could excuse it, but moreso to understand why it is that way in the first place. I think some of the US's policies on drugs and abortion are barbaric, but to people that live there, it's perfectly normal and it's based on a lifetime of thinking in a certain way. We don't have to agree with something to understand it. If that makes sense?
