Supposedly propaganda has been circulating around Chinese media, stating Biden supports "One China". Reports state otherwise.
This is weird. Officially, it seems the US does not support Taiwan’s independence, but everyone interviewed about it says "they're independent, they have the freedom to choose". Surely those are complete contradictions? I'm not understanding any of this.
That's because the US is stepping on eggshells with China. What the US government should do is make their stance clear. We act like we want to defend Taiwan one day with all of the joint naval exercises, and then the next day we won't even call Taiwan independent. If they're not independent, then why are we defending a Chinese province?
It seems like it's a case of telling China one thing to their face to avoid another full on cold war, and actually supporting Taiwan with weapons behind their backs. Dismas and I were discussing this and he compared it to the US being "totally neutral" at the start-middle of WWII, while supplying the allies.
