That's exactly right.

It's no different to purchasing a laptop, but I cannot replace a faulty SSD or Ram. Why take It In for repair, when I can do It myself on a device that I paid for and rightfully own.

From a company's standpoint, that's just nonsense.

In terms of a cell phone, I've purchased It and It's registered under my name when connected to a given carrier, hence I'm responsible for both the device and Its usage. Essentially, I own It and If I wish to repair It and not take It to an authorized dealer, then that's entirely my choice. If the company wants to place restrictions, then they can foot the bill for all repairs.
