Anybody try 911.re? Is this good just like a VPN?

911.re is not a VPN at all. It is a service that provides residential proxies. A residential proxy acts as an intermediary device between you and the internet and uses residential IP addresses to route your traffic requests. This IP address is connected to a physical device and places that make them legit. Do note that a proxy does not encrypt your traffic, it simply routes your traffic to an intermediary device - the proxy. This can help with unblocking websites that are restricted in your area. Proxies are much faster than VPNs as they do not encrypt your traffic through a tunneling protocol. This is why they are more commonly and widely used for many users.

From reading their privacy policy, it seems that they "collect" information that is helpful to them. They claim that the information they collect is anonymized and cannot be traced back to the user. Sounds a little skeptical to me, but if you do want to use this service do so at your own cost.

Do note that when using a proxy it only works at an application level - meaning that it only works on an application that you have it setup with.

I've used Mullvad in the past. Had an alright experience with NordVPN as well, though I'm skeptical of anyone that claims "no logs".


As you say. Companies that are able to learn from an experience shouldn't lose customers. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

You can sort of tell if a VPN service really cares about their privacy. The service providers I stated have evidence that they do not keep logs whatsoever. Not only that, but they also give you a brief detail and/or idea of what they keep and not keep. These VPNs have been in cases where authority seized their servers and acquired nothing at all. Not only that, but some of these VPN services have been to court and fought cases in which dealt with handing in user data - in which they had none at all.

In order to differ a good VPN from a VPN is looking up cases on them.

Some examples can be:
Have they been seized? If so, were authority able to claim identifiable data about user? Or did they obtain nothing?
Has the VPN service been to court? Did they fight for their users privacy or did they supply users data?

Note: An extremely poor VPN will claim that they keep no-logs and not providing a brief idea of what they actually keep - PureVPN is known for this, later on proven to hand in some sort of data that identifies users.

Security awareness Is one of the best forms of defense. When the leaks were Identified, they were aware of their vulnerabilities and patched them accordingly- which ultimately strengthened their service as a VPN provider.

Absolutely.

Every VPN service provider goes through issues, but sometimes if those issues are ignored, it can heavily lead to a declining customer dissatisfaction. Though, in NordVPN's case, their "no-log" policy seems to be skeptical by man users as they keep some sort-of connection logs. That aside, I don't find it a bad VPN at all, it is a good VPN service, but for my privacy needs, I simply have better privacy-focused alternatives.

Mullvad has a great write-up on what they do, which is excellent in practice. However, it's not abnormal for companies or the courts to lie, and I'd never trust either fully. That said, 3-letters aren't chasing after copyright infringers or porn addicts - they're after fraudsters and drug dealers.

You are absolutely right. 3-letters are only after fraudsters and drug dealers. Either way, if a company is claiming that they respect user privacy, no matter what circumstances are, they should abide by what they state. Otherwise, their customers will start declining.
