I would argue it is a game, but it has features that go beyond gaming. For example, if I were to go onto VR chat, it might technically be classified as a game and have arcade games in it but realistically it is a chat-room platform. I wonder if Roblox feels that they are developing away from that pure "game" classification, and morphing into something bigger than a singular game.

From my observation, it just looks like Roblox is throwing Epic under the bus, while being guilty of doing the same thing. Apple may let Roblox get away with it, but it's bad for everyone else.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. My long-term speculations aside, Roblox is a game, as mothered says, and this is definitely an interesting move. Let's see what happens next.

I would almost say the lengths that Roblox has gone to cover for Apple, puts them in a bad light. The fact they can be manipulated to play into Apple's narrative, says enough. I'm against trade regulation personally, but there's plenty of case studies of what happens when you let monopolies go unchecked. The fee might be 30% now, but without alternative app stores they could easily hike it to 40%.
