I dont think alienware are bad at all. I have my alienware and it has a soft surface and works perfectly. The buttons are nice to touch and the computer runs smoothly with Linux installed on it. It doesnt have any compitability issues at all and works well with everything. Alienware are popular computers among hackers too. Acer PC's in my opinion usually tend to not have that great durability, if that's what youre looking for. Also, AW computers can have things like Intel i9 processors because they are so powerful, not all can have that.

I think that's one of the hard parts of choosing... Personal experience has a lot of influence over how you feel about a product. I'm glad your AWs panned out well. How long have you been using your AW for?

In all honesty, I don't think i9s existed when the AWs I used came out (my laptop was from about 2012/2013, i9s came out in 2017 lol!). So in my post, I am talking about laptops that were 5-10 years old. I imagine using them in the first 3 years is golden.

Similarly aged Lenovos that I've used, survived much better xD

More than a year. It works very well and i dont see any of the things she mentioned. Maybe she was just unlucky? Ive never hear anything bad about AW computers. And if im gonna refer to popularity, its a very popular brand among hackers. So im just sceptical that a computer of that quality wouldnt be good. Its just too many very strong statements that contradict logic.

Forgive me, I'm not sure what you mean by contradicting logic? And I suppose 1 year isn't that long, as most warranties last at least 1-2 years. However, I would hope the newer AW products are more up to scratch than the ones from 2013! xD I can only comment on what I experienced, especially when I googled my issue (such as the hinge breaking - see picture below) where I found hundreds of posts online with the same issue from the model I had. As with anything, personal experience is all relative! I promise I'm not disputing your experience either - just to clarify.

Likewise.

Acer has served me extremely well over the years, so I can only base my comment on personal experience.

I actually had a Dell Inspiron, namely the 510M, back In 2004. From what I remember, It was quite stable and responsive. The Alienware Is a very appealing and powerful unit and If any of my lappies die, that's what I'll be purchasing.

The pre-Dell ones seemed to be the most durable, with the least problems. I've owned 2-3 Alienwares in the past and I'd avoid them entirely if you can. The laptops @Jiggly has mentioned all had their own set of issues and the M18x actually had its motherboard replaced twice. I've had even worse experiences with Razr laptops. I'd instead recommend Lenovo, Asus, or Acer.
I just have to say this.

I'm not here to invalidate your experience, though you've only owned it a year. I've owned the M18x/M17x and M15x/M14x. All of these laptops were from around 2010 and all of them had problems in some form or another. Your results may vary, but I won't recommend them. Your brand loyalty has nothing to do with being a "hacker". Lenovo, Asus, and Acer all make laptops with i9s.

I have some laptops that still work after 15 years, but none of the Alienwares met my expectations past the 3 year mark. Between motherboard replacements, incompetent support, and poor build quality (bad hinges/bad finishing) it is really hard to say anything in their favor. It is well-documented that laptops made by them during those years suffered problems. I hope for your sake things have improved since.

Maybe the ones from 2010 had some issues. But maybe the newer ones have fixed those issues? The issues that were with older computers maybe not exist with new ones. Mine works very well and I havent experienced any issues. And when it seems to you like it isnt a good label or brand, that's what sounds like something you just made up because you didnt like it personally. Emotional arguments. I mean, if I have that computer, atleast I should get to say that i disagree with you if you think its not good.

Emotional? Made up? XD How about not invalidating others opinions? As we said, it's all relative to personal experience with a product. This is exactly what this kind of thread is for.

To move on: What other laptop brands have you tried and liked? I think I've only really tried AW, Toshiba and Lenovo, personally (and one Dell laptop from the days before inbuilt WiFi existed xD). Though I'm constantly recommended acers and asus.

I've seen some pretty great deals for older Lenovos on Ebay. If you get one from an official/registered refurbisher, I'm sure you'll have a great experience.

Pretty much this, I've only given my thoughts as I've owned 3-4 Alienwares across 5-10 years. You can find my threads from 2013 on them, and I probably said the same things as @"☣︎︎︎︎℟︎|†︎|NG0" the first year I owned them. As for brands, I'd recommend Lenovo the most. I have an old T-series that still works 15 years later, as well as a Y510P that worked well for 5+ years.

Fine. I give up. She is unbearable.

I bought that computer for $2.000 and now she makes me look like a complete loser for just owning one.

Invalidating others? How about not bullying others in debates 3 vs.1 for not having the same computer brand as you?

Woah. I think there might be some confusion going on. There's no bullying here! We're just sharing different experiences - please don't feel offended!

As we said, ours were very old laptop models. So, the new ones may be awesome. We're not looking to bash your purchase. Those AWs are epic machines, and I'm genuinely hopeful it lasts well for you. I'd really love to see AW machines doing well.

And nobody was bashing anyone for not owning Lenovo, lol. Personally, I was trying to ask what other machines people had tried too, to find out more about people's experiences with different models. It's good to get a variety of view points I think Smile
