The only apparent reason is that Microsoft is getting rid of competition.

Dunno why Microsoft would consider a heavy-duty brick company as competition though...

I'm not sure exactly how much Nokia as a company is worth, but if I was the CEO, I'd be pretty happy to get rid of it.

Please, tell me, in what ways does Nokia compete with Windows? They aren't a software company, and they've only really made Windows phones for the last 5+ years.
