Knowing the price of oil per barrel? Please say people still know what that is.

None of this is incredibly complex, it just isn't studied anymore. It is no longer valuable to know how to phonetically write things out( or, for that matter, read phonetic script ).

It's also worth noting that 19th century education was, by definition, a lot less progressive than even today's system. Back then, if you could regurgitate the trivia that was on the test, you were a brilliant man to society. Today, the value in education is not in what you read in a textbook, it's learning how to evaluate conflicting views, think critically, and come to conclusions.

As for me being close minded, get your head out of you ass and convince me, rather than "zomg u so noob gun owner using safes and shit" and attempting to pass anecdotal evidence as incontrovertible.

They learned those lessons through the hard work of sustaining there family either on the farm or working at 13. Laboring ,which has been lost in our country, teach how to evaluate conflicting views, think critically, and come to conclusions.

Laboring does not teach that. On a farm, there's usually a maximum of 3 ways you can do a given task, and you just have to pick the one best for the situation. And that's if you're in charge. As a farm hand, you do what your told and that's it. Skilled labour vs unskilled labour is differentiated for just that reason.

If theres 3 ways to do something two people will have conflicting views that will be evaluated with critical thinking in order to come to a conclusion.
