It actually functioned In a similar fashion- printed from left to right, much the same as a typewriter moving In the same direction with each line typed. The printer was very loud and annoying, but for that era, It served Its purpose well.

If anyone really wanted the convenience of a smart home while also having data privacy, just self host it. https://mycroft.ai/ is an open source voice assistant that you can make work with https://www.home-assistant.io/. Throw a couple hard wired, non broadcasting RPis around your house on their own VLANs to control them and tada, you have a smart home that your paranoid asses don't have to worry about, and unless you have some glaring security holes in your network that were preexisting before installing your smart home products, then you don't even have to worry about big hacker man taking control of your house.

I am glad there is awareness being raised about these devices, but I do think it's important to have a healthy dose of common sense about what you need to worry about, and equally, what you don't need to worry about.

On the topic, has anyone ever done a data request? I've actually requested my data from amazon for mere curiosity, but I have yet to nose through it.
