Should i buy a new PC? 11-24-2012, 08:15 PM
#1
So. I have this old PC, from 2005, that i run a server on now. But, i thought of getting some extra RAM, and maybe a new processor.
The thing is, that the computer only supports 4 GB, and i thought of getting two 8 GB RAM sticks. So, i thought i could buy a new processor for it too, since the old one is what limits the RAM, but i wouldn't need 16 GB, so i could just as well buy a new computer and put the other 8 GB into that?
I could buy a cheap, like 500 € PC, and then put the RAM to that, and maybe later buy other customization for it too.
And, i would buy 16 GB, coz that is the best price for money.
Any other suggestions?

If I was going to upgrade I'd fully buy a new machine - 16GB ram isn't really needed unless you're going hardcore on your new system. I have 16GB's and I'd be perfectly fine with 8GB.

Yes, get a new computer. You could get more RAM and a better computer.

yesh.
but, i could get 16 for cheap, and then use the other 8 GB only if needed, or add that to another computer.

I say no. Just because it will be cheaper if you just buy new parts for what you want to change, and put them in yourself.

I would just custom build a new PC. Even if your processor and ram is upgraded, that still leaves the question of the video card. Might as well just buy a new PC.

getting new parts for an old pc is just like putting an 2012 mercedes parts on an old mercedes.
so buying a new pc would be a better choice.
