Friend of mine informed me about the winrar exploit so I had to share it here.

How many of you are vulnerable to the WinRar exploit. It basically moves a virus to your startup folder when you extract the contents of the .rar file.

Every version below and including 5.61 are vulnerable and most of you don't really update winrar and have had it for ages.
Simply open up winrar, then click help > about and check your version.

They pretty much do the same job, just an uglier UI.

And yes, there's obviously people who use WinRar, not everyone is up to date like most.

I use winrar, used to be a 7zip fan, but since winrar is paid, decided to move to it.

But, I only extract stuff using extract.me

Useful tip, I use 7zip so I suppose I'm not affected but many have been using the same version of WinRar for 5+ years.

I've only ever used 7zip so I'm not affected, but a lot of people use WinRar still.
How widespread is that exploit?

I didn't knew there was an exploit.

I just use a cracked WinRAR. I use it to extract all of my files on Windows and it does its job as well as can be.

I have four active blogs that require uploading of files, so I use WinRAR on a daily basis.

I do not use winrar. I use like 7zip.
