I have a couple of 2TB external HDDs (secondary backup), and over 1.2TB of files- that's every file collected over a decade.
My other externals are 500GB SSDs, which I utilize on a daily basis.

Made the switch to a 500 GB SSD recently from 128 and it feels amazing (and is cheaper than when I bought my first SSD). I don't have to continuously eye storage usage every time I want to install something because MSVS and VMware installations + archived Windows "update" files pretty much hoard it all. I've been using 2 TB ext HDD for a while to place my games but starting them up might take a long while if they're larger. Considering a 4 TB ext HDD in the future for the long run.

My HP has a 500GB SSD Internal with a 2TB HDD. I don't really need an optical drive so I bought a caddy to replace it and mount the 2TB.
My Lenovo has a 250GB SSD Internal with 500GB SSHD that I grabbed from the E-waste box at work.

I currently have a 256GB Samsung PRO 850 SSD and a 4TB WD Black for games and movies.
I'm thinking to get a 500GB SSD in the near future

Personally I have a 2TB external and a 500gb NVME internal. Anything that is considered slightly on the 'iffy' side, I'll store on the external, you never know when you'll need to disconnect and hide it...

Always have a few backups.
From personal experience, I've had two drives fail In as many days. Thankfully, I had my third external HDD. The same with USB sticks- I've lost count as to the number that have corrupted.
