I have an suggestion, don't know how hard it would be to implement, and if it is practical.

What if to be able to read some of those sections (SE is the one that is most relevant), you would have to contribute with a valuable post in that section, or have a good amount of posts. This way, we can still get good SEers that might not be able to contribute in a meaningful way in other sections of the forum.

I really like where this is going, but it would be difficult to automate.

Might cut down the number of "Help me SE ___" threads.

I believe this Is the way to go for the Social Engineering forum. It contains repetitive posts, of which a lot are LQ, therefore filtering It's contents will certainly Improve It.

In terms of a minimum post requirement, the nature of the forum (section) should be prioritized. For example, as you've suggested with the Market section, given the sensitivity of the forums (namely the Regular Sales, Premium Sales, Trader's Area and Buyer's Area), It's best to deal with members who've established a rapport with the community prior to posting. As such, a post requirement will help achieve just that.

There is so much spam in the SE subforum and the market section, its a pain the amount of people who cause problems there even in the regular non-upgraded market section. While I get you may be well known as a seller on another site, its still a good idea to build a reputation on the new site before setting up shop.

Could also make access to it require a certain amount of rep. Makes it tangentially important and it's not like a lot of high-sitting members are flaunting zeros or negatives. Incentivizes HQ posting and investment to get those points without the automation of said posts.

You could have it like-based, or thread-rating based, since we already have both.

However, both of those systems aren't really good though, since there's not much of a standard for 'like' (compare my number of given likes to phy's), and nobody seems to rate threads (afaik).

I think the fact someone made a recommendation for a feature which already exists, says something about how little it's used. I agree with you.

Would people be in favor of setting requirements to view/use specific sections?

Currently we require posts for a few sections that are prone to leeching (i.e. Giveaways/Accounts). I'd be open to making requirements for the Social Engineering and Market sections.

I agree with this. I think anything where users are expected to act more collected and civil should have some limit, but I don't really agree with huge ones.
