Exact point I've been trying to make about the toxic Amazon post. But you're more politically correct then I am.

People have said we're dying since the board started. The fact you made this post 8 hours ago and already received 10 replies says plenty. We still average 100-200 posts a day and we're currently averaging more than in previous years (I even checked stats).

Spoiler:
We've had those posts since the board started. Move on, you're obsessed.

1st off, I do agree with this. Even though I wasn't around, or interested in hacking too long ago I started my interest in hacking around the middle of 2014 I can say that I think it was a lot easier to hack back then, as stuff wasn't as secure I could be wrong.

Now they don't know much about IT and will probably look like skids. That's totally fine. We all started like that some day. The problem however, is that millenials DON'T want to LEARN but they want to EARN.

2nd off, this kind of goes along the lines of the first quote, but @Bish0pq is very correct about how just about every 8 year old has a laptop or some kind of phone. Parents these days don't want to, or won't let their kids purchase stuff like in game credits, etc, and the kids don't have their own money to pay for it, so they come to forums with the idea of what they think hackers talk like "Can I getz some ROBLOX HAXXXXXXX PLZ????????" and it makes them look even more skiddy.

After that this will cause that most threads are just questions and asking for stuff they need instead of writing actual usefull tutorials and because of THAT it's possible that the "core members" who can provide good, quality content will lose interest in the forum because they can't learn anything anymore from people so they'll move on.

I will be honest, I was like this when I first learned about it, kids want to RAT people just for fun, and "show off", I mean, it is "showing off" but its not really at the same time. Also, they are wanting to social engineer for benefit, I will say this: I would like to S.E. one day, but not for benefit, I want to do it just for the fun of it, or even to help prevent it by in the end telling the company what how it happened.  On the point about people just coming to forums to ask question, I agree with that, they either don't google their question first, or they don't do research. Kids these days want what they want "RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW" and they don't have good patience or research skills, thus they come to forums to ask their question without doing their research, and that can "spam" up forums, they also don't want to take the time to look through the thread categories for at least some kind of answer, or if they do, they gravedig because "The link won't work, im gonna CRYYYYYYYYY  Sad ". "the "core members" who can provide good, quality content will lose interest in the forum" they do for that reason I just stated. Now, there are still people like @phyrrus9 that want to make very HQ posts, and thread tutorials, which I absolutely love.

I would say the exact same along the lines of "NOT saying every millenial or everyone is like this" because it is very true, every once in a while we get people like @ZanGetsu that come to specifically share tools.

@Bish0pq lol, you're damn right im trying my outer best, I worry myself to death all the time about "am I either gonna get banned, or reported for this being too LQ." and it makes me not want to post as much. I really do try my hardest to make as HQ posts as possible. I really am going to need some help when I start sometime soon doing reviews of stuff I find on GitHub, or hardware for example, what I posted yesterday about the Packet Squirrel.

Now, I would like to mention @"Dismas", you are raising the best technology forums on the internet, and I really hate that we get people like stated all above.

Very well said man. I do want to draw attention to your

because you're absolutely correct. remember that, being born in 95, I fall in that group as well. With SL you often get out what you put in, but don't expect it to be immediate. I started writing my hardware engineering stuff years ago, and I'm just now starting to see members interested. I may have inspired them, maybe not, it doesn't matter to me. Loads of people like the things I put out, even if they just lurk on it.

It's always worthwhile to write stuff that may go over members' heads. Way back when I was still in uni, I used to force my upstairs neighbor to sit through me teach him assembly. He was a manufacturing engineering major, so the chances he'd ever use it were slim to none, and he really didn't listen very well. Turns out, 3 years later he had to take an assembly class, and came back and told me that because of all my late night assembly rants everything clicked with him when it came time to actually learn the stuff. I had provided some sort of foundation for him to grasp things on.

From my anecdotal experience, SL is more active than ever. When I first joined, however, most posts were defacements, social engineering/hacking tutorials, and marketplace activity. Now, it's shifted more towards Coding, Technology, and Miscellaneous discussion. But there are more people posting than ever. Just look at Oni's post above. He has access to statistics about site traffic and post volume; SL has only grown.

The question is, are you okay with the board moving towards a more general Technologist stance, or do you wish it was still more about hacking and sales? My personal stance is that I'm stoked, because I enjoy the variety. And if you, as a member of SL, miss all the advanced IT and security posts...why not go and make some of your own? Stoke the flames a little bit. Post some tutorials, resurrect techniques that have gone by the wayside. The caveat I will give is that marketplace sales will probably never be as good as they once were. But the security and hacking part of SL can be bolstered if the users want it.

I agree. IMO, if people want to see something get better, why not start helping do that. I was at youth group at church last night, and our youth leader said "If you want to see something happen, start by doing that thing yourself." Also, something that's great, take a look at this video, its VERY inspiring.

The whole start by doing it yourself thing is totally true. That quote has been floating around the Earth in some way or another since humans first figured out language. The making your bed part is meh. I can't remember the last time I made my bed.

I have rewritten this post multiple times to try and get my words out properly, so here it goes.
The "hacking" scene was always a roller coaster, it would rise and fall with the trends, You would have the real hardcore hackers pop up teach something then either move into a job or into prison. Yeah you read that correctly, the real hackers aren't freeloaders, they are research analysts, or government analysts, or government funded groups, that is the forefront of hacking. Yes when something big happens the smaller groups pop up like anonymous, but at the end of the day all of those groups disperse, leaving the hacking scene to the only people who keep it alive, the skids. They are the little kids ratting, doxxing, asking how to hack facebook, etc, they will be tomorrows hacker and possible fed, that is just how it works.
Now the part where people like to blame Millennials I don't agree with, sure my generation has its fuck ups, but every generation does. Blaming the past of future generation will get you no where in life, because every generation has fucked it up going way way back and we can only hope the future ones figure out how to fix it, thats's life.
Is SL dead, not by a very very long shot, sure some of the more active folks will vanish from time to time, but that is because a majority of us are grown ass adults who have to put food on the table and raise our families, so lapses in activity happen, but that only gives the limelight up for someone else to shine in. Back when I started I surpassed @mothered in daily and monthly post count for a few months, I had a lot to say, a lot to share, but nowdays my daily sinisterly trip is clearing alerts, handling pms and answering threads. I enjoy the community and wish I had more time to pop on discord and spend hours talking bullshit, or jumping on minecraft and doing silly shit, but RL happens, seasons change and SL just keeps on kicking. I might be a new account here but I lurked on SL for a couple years, reading what I had access too and moving on, I have belonged to a hell of a lot of forums over the years, on a large variety of subjects that interest me, SL is the only one I try to make time to pop in daily for.
Oh and why the hell limit ourselves by declaring the forum one type or another, I hope some of the ex Neogaf members migrate here to bolster the gaming section, I hope we continue to grow, expanding every section and subforum, until there is so much sensory overload that groups will finally have their purposes fulfilled.

tl:dr - damn kids! lol!

I can't agree with this more. Hacking isn't something you learn to do, and it's not something that can be done in a few keystrokes. I've collaborated on many of these teams (in the iOS scene) and I can tell you progress is slow. When I was doing this sort of thing for a job, we would spend months digging around crash dumps trying to find something useful, then another 6 months developing a payload, then send it up to the application guys who tell us its useless and to start over.

The very day I joined this forum, I got a feeling that I have come to a place where I can truly learn what I want to learn and can achieve my goal. I don't believe that there are any other forum out there that can provide you guidelines like what this forum can. Here you can get expert programmers, pentesters and IT specialists and they are always there to help you out if you truly want help. I frequently contact with one of my favorite members - @mothered and get extremely valuable advice and motivations which are greatly helping me out to reach my goal. This forum can never be dead as it has a bunch of people who are technically sound and friendly. I love this forum so much and in future I also want to contribute. I never want to see it dead or something like that.
