Linux is a kernel.  The OS experience depends on what distro you use.

GNU itself is alright, nothing is perfect, but most Linux distros are better than windows imo.  (Excluding Ubuntu and Hannah Montana Linux)

Mhm I see, but I guess I will stick with windows for now, would be kinda meh to start picking up linux without any real reason.

Yes.

You can't see the Windows source code, so you have no idea what they are doing. With Linux, you have tons of people looking through their code, which is publicly available.

However, it is still possible to sneak in an obscure backdoor. However, in Windows you don't even need to be obscure, nobody can see your code.

Mhm I see, guess I'll stick with the stuff I am familiar with. How's Linux as OS tho? Never used it before.

Unless your a big gamer, there really isn't any reason to stick with Windows, most programs have a Linux alternative and for those that don't you can easily run them in a VM. I would suggest you make a live disc (can be a disc or usb) and try out a few distros, @Ender will suggest the more tech savvy ones but I suggest Kubuntu or Linux Mint, especially if you are fresh from Windows.

I was gonna say Manjaro or Antergos if you don't have any *nix experience.
I also always recommend Debian netintall for new users, it teaches you all you need to know to get started.

I don't recommend Ubuntu based distros, as Ubuntu is just as bloated as Windows, and I've had a lot of issues with it.

I only recommend really-hard distros to those who are used to *nix systems.

If you don't like it, there's still another thousand *NIXs out there. (MINIX3, BSD, etc.)
