Instead of, you know, getting rid of the nazis infesting their platform or adding the functionality to edit tweets (two things that the majority of users have been asking for), Twitter's newest update introduced a new UI with... circles. Among other things (like the minimal icons, which I'm beginning to like), pretty much everything is rounded now.

Personally, I'm a big proponent of circular avatars, so I'm happy with that aspect. On the other hand, I'm not too thrilled about nearly everything being circular, and what isn't (e.g. the borders of section containers) reeeally doesn't look right. Any thoughts?

As with everything, "balance" Is the key for a healthy and/or successful result. I always try to find an equilibrium with everything I do.
In my views, I believe the GUI Is an overkill.
