I am going to get a new laptop, but I was wonderig which brand I should get. I'm leaning towards the macbook as im mostly going to use it for school/gfx/mixing. Any suggestions or tips for choosing the right laptop?

Get a Lenovo. I've had good luck with them. ASUS is another good brand. I'd never recommend Apple products.

Apple products are generally ok, but you always have to purchase their genuine cords etc. You'll certainly dish out more money than they're with in the long run.
I agree with Oni - I'm actually using a lenovo laptop now and I love this machine. The only thing I'd change about it, is I'd get a more powerful Lenovo - Do-able since their prices and build quality are good.

It depends on your overall usability.
For example, for me, due to compatibility reasons (file system, software etc) I cannot opt for a Mac, hence the Windows platform suits and serves my computational tasks well. Weight up your options, and then consider which platform and lappy Is best suited.

Keep in mind that you can run Windows on a MacBook using bootcamp, and Apple provides you with all the drivers you need for compatibility, so this is really just a question of "Would you like a Mac and are you prepared to pay the Apple fee?"
If yes, then I don't see any reason why you should not get a Mac.
I myself use a Lenovo Yoga, which I'm willing to bless.
Edit:
Also be aware that on new newer MacBooks the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be changed. On the most recent 2016 MacBook lineup the HDD is also soldered directly onto the motherboard and cannot be changed, so if you buy the newest MacBook you're stuck with the configuration you bought until you get a new computer.

It all depends on what you're going to utilize a laptop for. You can get a Lenovo, Asus or even a Dell with high-end hardware for the same price as a low-end MacBook Air/Pro. You're also going to spend extra cheese for adapters if you go the Apple way. Find yourself a good used Lenovo or something similar. Lenovo products are decently cheap and typically have a long life span. Good luck OP.
