Motorcycles, Harleys especially, are a pain in the ass from what I've gathered from my stepdad turning our garage into a bike surgery bay every couple of months.
I back the "clunker that doesn't need repairs often" idea 100% though, that's probably what I'm going to do if I ever buy a car.

I'm not going to lie, I was determined to read the whole thing, but I'm no mechanic and I didn't understand everything but I got the gist.

I used to know somebody who'd buy a car, fix it up and then sell it for more after working on it. Great way to make money, until you hit financial issues like being kicked out of your home, then you're left with only your primary car (as opposed to your primary and another that you're working on to sell). So, this guy continued to work on his primary car and bought more new cars in a month than I bought shampoo (and I'm female). Sometimes you need to balance mechanic madness and financial security.

Glad you got it sorted, and hopefully more problems don't occur!

Just read through all of that. That's crazy, but kind of what I expect to hear from anyone driving a BMW. Around this time last year my DD was hit head on and my car was totaled. I was looking towards a 535, but after countless complaint threads and the cost of fixing the little things (I'm pretty good at doing things myself I'll add), I ultimately decided against anything BMW. Ended up getting an Infiniti G37. Fucking love this thing. Has the luxury feel of a BMW, 0-60 in 5 seconds (with CAI), along with an engine known to go 200-300k+ miles without much issues. Plus parts are pretty cheap as many of them are on the G35, 350/370 Z, or even maximas/altimas.

Of course, the more parts you add, the more that's going to break. Mine will stay mostly stock because I'm hoping to get at 5-6 more years of out it before I move on up. I guess time will tell.

I've been wanting to pick up a G35 for a while, but I don't know ANYTHING about them. I went with the M for the 200+mph top speed, insane power, and high level of engineering in them. A little update, I pulled the oil filter housing out today and it was deformed in such a way that I cannot even come close to understanding. It had a crease in it (like a complete fold) on a circular part in a circular housing that's always flooded with oil....

G35s are pretty solid cars. Actually a buddy of mine has over 230k on his and the only thing he's replaced was a window motor. I heard it's easier/cheaper to get high gains with turbos/sc as well. I wasn't overly concerned with speed though. If I wanted that I would have bought a miata. One thing with 35's is the interior paint is crap. Everything you touch daily will eventually start chipping and peeling. They corrected this on the 10+ 37s though, or you could do it yourself with wrap. I personally like the looks of the 37, and needed a 4dr with AWD.

I think those filter housings are plastic. I would guess heat and coolant deteriorating it over time. More fun stuff to fix

the housing is aluminium, the retaining rod and cap is rosin.. it shouldn't start to deform until it hit 300 F
