I'll add to this.
The reputation system is supposed to be for Opinions, and you should consider it as it's supposed to be considered as.
Just to clear what an "Opinion" is defined as;
An opinion is a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty, and an opinion is also a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
Everyone has opinions and views of others, so you shouldn't be mad and sad and angry all over just because someone gave you a negative opinion, you should thank that user for giving their opinion on you which you can use the negative thing shown in the reputation to make yourself someone better, and that user's negative on you will/might turn into a positive, no one really knows.
By someone posting their negative opinion on you, if the thing you've done is really negative, take the opinion as a warning; as something that tells you to fix your attitude, as something that tells you to be better. Not just an opinion from someone who randomly hates you, all opinions have a reason, whether jealousy, hate, love or experience.
And to write a conclusion to it; the reputation system should never matter to you in any way. The reputation system is just a system, can be used to submit fake or true opinions, but at the same time, if someone hates you and you have 20 positives, their view won't change of you because of that and vice versa.
People judge/rate you depending on your personality, attitude, actions, etcetera, not just a reputation system that can be abused in any ways.
