The reputation system. 06-09-2016, 11:27 AM
#1
So as some of you may know i recently put a -1 rep on a user and there was a bit of a hoo har about it.Â
Anyway i'd just like to put my view on how the reputation system should be used.
Firstly i want to say that not all rep has to be bad and not all rep has to be good that is why a decision.
Secondly i think the rep system should be used to put your view on the reader without any backlash since it is a honest opinion.
I also think that some people don't use the rep system enough and some just use it after someone did one thing good or bad or something they did not like or agree on.
I would like to say this is not a thread i made because i didn't like the feedback i got personally. It is merely me saying and explaining how the system does and should work in my eyes.

Just a note on this also...
Because some has neg repped you do not report it. If the member who has given you a negative rep feels you deserve it then that is the case.

I think the reputation system can help with trust. End of the day, you gain reputation by being trusted. Members repute you for who you are. If you come to the forum and just want to gain something for nothing then I think you should leave negative reputation and inform the user you will remove it at a later date if he/she improved their activity.
I think you did the right thing. I mean some people say reputation is just a number but a lot of people use that as their trust rating so it is important especially forums with a marketplace.

As Combo mentioned reputation is much more than a green, red or grey pixel. It can show other members if you are trustworthy, loyal or just a jackass. Maybe a loyal jackass no one knows because as forums get larger the more reputation abuse presents itself. It is key to stop rep abuse before a forum gets big. A certain post count amount implementation could be added to resolve issues that are based around rep abuse.
Maybe normal members should not be aloud to give reputation points at all. I am just throwing out some possible pointers and my opinion.

Well I honestly think Rep systems are retarded since almost every forum is a rep4rep based forum. Everyone + rep's each other for no reason just to get a rep back and it destroys the purpose. If you can't handle rep, just gtfo the internet and stop being a baby.

Like Paradigm said, please don't report negative reputation. You may only report it if you believe people have ganged up on you, or they're accusing you of scamming without any proof.
