Situation currently happening. Here's what we know so far:
  • This is taking place in Pulse, an Orlando nightclub
  • Shooter is using a rifle
  • He's barricaded himself in the nightclub, and has taken hostages
  • He's possibly got a bomb or a vest. Maybe even a bioweapon, as hazmat crews are on the scene.
  • Unconfirmed reports of gunfire at a nearby hospital (Two shooters?)
  • 9 dead, 24 injured.

NEW: Police need an Arabic translator.
NEW (2): Police have breached.
NEW (3): Police are preparing to transport patients.
NEW (4): People are being told to clear the area.
NEW (5): Police are being told to take cover and prepare to move back 100 yards. Shots fired.

Hence the main reason I don't watch or listen to the news. It's nothing but negativity.

Acts of this nature Is depressing, Innocent lives lost Is just horrific.

you better watch yourself boy there are some real NRA members on here just ask @Oni

There really is no way to prevent incidents like these as long as Americans love their guns, which will probably never change. It's kinda fucked up to say but shit like this doesn't even phase me anymore... we will all just have to get used to shit like this.

Spoiler:
Can't you go be stupid somewhere else?

Since when did less mass shootings become more important than less crimes in general? The fact that Americans are able to own guns to defend themselves and others has lowered the crime rate staggeringly. If their government took away their legal right to own a gun, complete chaos would break out since the US has the highest rate of gun ownership per capita in the world; who's not to say a large group of them are criminals (which there are, just look at the gang stats for that country)? There's no way you are stupid enough to think that criminals won't still own and use guns just because it's illegal. Furthermore, Australia is a very peaceful country, the US is not. If you wanted to fairly compare the US to another country with regards to gun banning, look at the UK. They've banned guns, yet still have around 2,000 violent crimes per 100,000 residents whereas the US stands at around 400-500 per 100,000 residents. With all of that being said, please shut the fuck up.

You would get the "0 Chill" award if such a thing existed.

I agree. News like this just dumbs my mood for the day, I'd rather start with something positive in contrast to than stuff like this.

With exception to the swearing in that paragraph you have a good point. To expand on that, it's not even legal for me to own pepper spray to protect myself. What on earth are criminals going to be deterred by? If they're going to commit a crime, they're not going to care if they've illegally acquired a weapon too since they're already committing a crime.

I think education for kids about guns and better updates to that database for the background checks before gun ownership may bring down some numbers, but more gun regulation isn't going to help in the long run.

That, combined with media interest. Humans are naturally curious about death etc, so we'll always watch it or listen to it on the radio. Therefore, the media reports on incidents like those more frequently. Plus, the gun ownership controversy is still very topical right now and that just fuels the debate.
