Seriously? So they basically dumped him and left him for dead (so to speak). Forget child services, the parents should be locked up. The poor child could've died.

I'm not so sure that's what really happened. I think they probably said you've got to wait here and tried to pretend as though they weren't coming back. If they intentionally left him for dead, I'm pretty sure they'd get done for attempted murder. Also, why would they have made the search party so massive?

They should at least be investigated as to make sure the child is safe. Apologizing to the public is one thing, but treatment at home in private is a whole different story.

To be honest, I agree with that. I wouldn't want the family to split if the child unless the child is worse off with the family. However, we don't know if that investigation has been carried out or not. It's the media after all.

Yes, with my comment of "basically dumped him and left him for dead", I was metaphorically speaking, hence my bracketed comment of "so to speak". In other words, due to their negligence, It can be seen as leaving him for dead.

I agree with what you've said In terms of a punishment-like act from the parents. But the way they did It was certainly Inappropriate.

I get you, that forest did have bears in it.

I totally agree. But then, a norm in one country isn't the norm in another. From my studies in psychology a few years ago, Japan has a very different attitude to upbringing than we do in the UK or US. Still, I'm not sure if something like this would be considered normal there and I hope it isn't.

Yes I do hope Japan's laws see It for what It Is and apply the appropriate punishment.

If not, then acts of this nature will unfortunately continue to happen.

Like the story about the soldier who lived in a forest for years not knowing the war was over or something?
