I don't think so, Skype is the biggest instant messenger chat at the moment. If they ever will have bigger competitors Skype will update and the software more stable and useful.

Where did you get the information that NSA is controlling Skype?

A person sent a message and a few hours later found that their message was sent to another server owned by Microsoft, and of ofc Microsoft would report any malicious activity. As well, what does the NSA not monitor?
