Paint.NET Tutorials: [2] Effects #1
This thread is an addition to the previous one (Paint.NET Tutorials: [1] Intro). This won't be as big as the previous thread just because this one focuses on explaining various stuff about effects, and not the whole thing.

Paint.NET Tutorials: [2] Effects

As you might have noticed, PdN doesn't really have much to show when it comes to effects. That is because you aren't using 1/10 of its full potential.
The real magic of PdN is...PLUGINS!
That is right, almost all of the effects we will be using in the future tutorials are custom and fan-made.

But where can you get those plugins to achieve all sorts of sexy effects? Do they cost? How to install them?

You can find the plugins right here, on the PdN forums. Make sure you get all of those stickied plugins/plugins packs, they are the best ones. They are absolutely free.

So start clicking those threads and download all the plugins you think you will need. Most of them come as a .zip so you will have to unpack them, using programs like 7Zip or WinRAR. Once you have downloaded and extracted the plugins, it is time to install them.

You can do this by simply copying all of the extracted files (usually ending with .DLL) into your PdN directory, in the Effects map.

So go ahead and copy them to the directory (default: C:/Program Files/Paint.NET/Effects. Now open Paint.NET and they should all be here. Great, now you are ready to go!

If you still don't get it, let me give you step by step instructions:

1) Locate the download.

2) Download the file.

3) Extract the file if required. When extracting you can extract it directly into your Effects folder.

3.a) Alternatively you can extract the files anywhere else and then copy them into your Effects directory. This also applies when your downloaded file is not a .zip, but a .dll.
