RE: MyBB theme #11
My opinion.
Design is not appealing and looks too old school/outdated. Colors don't match too. That orange border is just murdering all design.
would suggest looking for a nice color combination that would match. Some websites where you can get nice combinations
colorcombos.com
colorhunt.co
Another thing to point out - if you are not experienced with web design/layouts would recommend first maybe reading some basics about design or look at some other MyBB themes and try to make something similar but not publish it as public since you have copied an other websites design for your own use.

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's basic.

The design isn't perfect yet but in time it will be. Everyone has their own opinions which is why it is actually neat to be able to ask for opinions on design and other stuff.

However; defending my design is what I will do. I removed most of the orange boarder this morning aside from at the top and the bottom of the page. The orange was too much and I agree with that, it never felt right to have that much of it. I substituted large portion of it with #1E1E1E which matches the darker color better and I'm still working on the absolutely correct scheme. The image posted in the thread was after the first few modifications. You might have completely different opinion when it is ready but the input is appreciated.

The old school design approach is what I am going for. It isn't supposed to be utilizing jquery drop down menus and shit like that, I just don't like it. In my opinion a theme should be comfortable and easy in usage. As I hate nothing more than themes that are complicated and resource heavy (lots of jquery and Javascript) I won't be creating anything that is flashy in design, which seems to be what you want but I don't.

This is the first time I am creating a theme for MyBB however, I've been working with web sites for several years and no stranger to the colors. I did exactly what you said I should do. I recreated another theme to understand how MyBB theme and templates system works. Now it is all up to me to create what I want. And it is getting there. Smile

Current situation for the main page is this:

I've got to replace some colors and modify other pages so there is a while until this is actually ready.

Thanks for the input and thanks for the web sites. They will come in handy.
This is the color scheme I'm working with right now.

Trying to minimize the orange color more and more. But it looks good in that top bar and the footer.

Never said to make it flashy with shit loads of javascipt and jquery
basically what i meant is making website more minimalistic and user friendly in terms of design but not its functionality.
Anyways looks much better without orange border.

I mean it's okay, but from what I've seen, not super unique though.

Yeah, much better with out the orange border. That orange color is too bright to have a lot of it. It looks good to have it to separate the header and the footer from the main stuff.

But I didn't remove any of the sites functionality, the plain look is just how I want it to be. It might look like I removed bunch of functionality but I didn't. Everything still exists and is there. I added one "feature" that made the theme a bit more comfortable, instead of always needing to scroll to the top to click the UserCP, the bar at the top is fixed. So when you scroll down it follows the screen down and up.

Not really supposed to be unique, just supposed to be comfortable and nice in use. That in my opinion is the most important part of a web site.

Kinda want to make MyBB theme myself now [emoji2]
Is your mybb theme going to be responsive or seperate built design for mobile devices?

I haven't even started to think about mobile devices.

But in that regards I have two options if the site becomes a reality that came directly into my head. I could either create a theme for mobile devices or I could integrate TapaTalk and let users use that instead of the browser. Which seems like the better option really. TapaTalk UI is nice. I think I would prefer that route instead of creating a separate theme and template for mobile devices. In time I could possibly have both too.

But yeah, creating a theme for MyBB is fun. Usage of templates makes it really easy to create very different themes, unlike some of the sites I've worked with where you are forced to use the same template and setup on every theme. (TBDev08 for example)

Yes, that is what I've been reading. Their record isn't great at all considering security issues, silently fixing important security issues and not notifying site owners about an important update.

But having Tapatalk available is comfortable as fuck for Mobile users. So I'm on both ways with this one. I think I should give it a shot at least.
