Just a heads up to all the new users on the site. Please do not grave dig old posts. If the last post in a thread is older than 3 months, that thread is dead. Posting in it puts it on the latest post page, bumps all the others down, and this angers alot of users. For more information, check the forum rules.

Please consider this when posting, because unless its a significant contribution the the tread in question, we consider it grave-digging. If you don't want people posting on threads older than a month then lock them. it's not complicated to have it done automatically. @Oni

As far as I am concerned setting an arbitrary time limit is stupid. If I have something relevant to add to an existing thread then there is no reason that age of the thread should matter. For example, if I come across a thread where there is wrong or incomplete information - it should be corrected. I'm not going to leave a crap post alone simply because its older than 30 days. In fact older posts are probably how the bulk of our new users find this site through google, etc. leaving them to find shit that should be updated, for example, will reflect poorly on this site.

I especially agree with this suggestion for a compromise. I have been away for close to 3 years until recently and whenever I read a thread that looks interesting to me, I might post my opinion without reading the date it was posted. I do understand how annoying it can be to have posts gravedug but, maybe you shouldn't be so concerned about certain threads and instead focus on pointless threads from over 6 months ago. A thread even as old as 3 months ago is still a 'recent' resources considering the age of the community and forum itself.

I don't agree with the "one month" time-frame. It's just not long enough to warrant a grave dig.

What If a given member posted a question directed at the OP. The OP just happened to be Inactive for just over a month. Does this mean he cannot respond to the question In his/her own thread?
If one month Is considered grave digging, then be It as It may. But the duration must be Included In the rules. As It stands, there's nothing that defines what Is/Isn't considered as grave digging:

Double-posting, cross-posting, and gravedigging aren't okay either.

Can we bring the rule to more of a 'in a nutshell' type thing. Like, for example someone searches for something and they wanted to post on it but, they see that the last post on it was from 4 months ago. Yes, this is probably dead. Useless maybe not. all threads are a gathering of collectives information. If they can be learned from than they are worth keeping around to look at and express freely. but, if the user finds a post 'How to make 300$/week at home' from 2 months ago and no one has posted on it then I would consider that more gravedug than the post from 4 months ago that had good high quality content. Some threads are more important. Period. Some threads are just someone making an account to distribute something they get paid to distribute or they just want to get word out. The quality of threads is always more important than quantity. If I see any thread that has good quality ad content, I apologize in advance. I will post on it incase the original poster looks back at the thread to see the ideas spread by the content or any credit that could/should be deserved from posting it in the first place. Forums are not like facebook posts where if someone comments or likes on a status from months ago and you're like... that was the past.

As "The Real Slim Shady" said why not just lock them. Best solution for this. 1 Month might be short period of time and thread can still become active let's say 2-3 months threads gets locked automatically.
