I've been getting more into Xplane 10... but It would be fun to have some people to setup ATC and stuff with. I'd go online, but its much to serious there.

What are you trying to do practice to become a pilot?. If so the best thing for you to do is to go to flight school and use real simulators where it is setup just like an actual plane.

I do kind of want to get a personal/private small plane but I think i'm better off on the ground considering all the plane crashes and planes getting shot down lately.

Also I did not state planes are shot down everyday, I said shot down lately. and crashes have been increasing as well over the years, also kids think its fun to shine lazers into the cockpits which can also blind the pilots sometimes even permanently and cause crashes. Flying is just not as safe anymore.
It seems at first flying was awful due to lack of technology, then flying improved and it was good and now flying is getting more and more risky as time goes on.
