Hi sinisterly,

I will be explaining a very basic tutorial about how you can store data in any file without writing it directly into the file.

What will you need:
- a Windows computer
- Net tools (Click here to go to the downloadpage)
- a brain

Step 1: Download and install Net Tools 5.
Step 2: Pick your random file (mine is a .txt file to prove that it is not written directly to the file)

Step 3: Open up the program and go to "Start --> File Tools --> Hide Secret Data In Any File"

Step 4: Select the file you want to hide data in.

Step 5: Fill in the Data Name (the variable) and the Data Value (the text you want to hide).

Step 6: Press the "Store data" button, this message should pop-up:


To retrieve the data back from the file:
Step 1: Select the file you stored data in.
Step 2: Press the button "Retrieve data" and type in the variable's name in.

Step 3: The result will pop-up in a messagebox.

Oh yes, the good ol' Net Tools. I recall using the first release, being v1.0 around 10 years ago.

I agree that is very simplistic but for some people this might not be simplistic at all. Certainly the younger generation doesn't know Net Tools and how to do this.

I am creating tutorials just from what I know, simplistic or not.

I don't know, it's safer to send a file with hidden text in it than sending something in plain text. I agree that is not a very difficult way but still, it might be useful for some people.

I am not saying that nobody knows. I'm 18 so I can be considered to belong to the "younger generation" as well. I'm just saying that there can be some people who are interested in this.

I know all about Net Tools, been using It since It's first release 10 years ago. But It doesn't matter what I know or think. Those new to the computational field, may never have come across Net Tools hence will certainly find It of benefit.

I remember DoS'ing with NetTools back in '09. Haha good ol' memories.

Nice share, although I don't really see any point in this. I'd just have an encrypted flash drive (with TrueCrypt) with all secret data on it.
