Upgraded to EVGA 970 #1
My EVGA 970 finally came in the mail. Absolutely kick ass card. I highly recommend it. I got the 970 SC edition. It's cheaper than the SSC one too. GPU-Z says my core clock is the base, but in games the core clock hits ~1500 or so. I got lucky in the silicon lottery.

I still cry a little when that cx750. Why didn't you go for the 390? Also didn't you have a 290x before that? Could of crossfired for way better performance. I mean the performance in 1080p between the 390 and 970 is minimal but 1440p and up is way better.

What kind of monster would choose the 970 over the 390 or the 390x? Accept AMD's better performing and cheaper cards now or I hurt you!

userbenchmark link for the 390 (+4%) vs 970 (-4%): http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvi...2577vs3481
userbenchmark link for the 390x (+12%) vs 970 (-12%): http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvi...2577vs3497

Note that this is userbenchmark by the way so its not that great of a reference, but for comparing the AMD cards with each other as well as the 970 I just found it easier than finding one source that benchmarks them both.

It's pretty hideous right now. I'll get to that eventually.

Because a 390 is just a 290x, essentially.

Don't want to derail the thread but that's not true at all. The only thing the 390/x and the 200-series equivalents have in common is the GPU itself, which is only as good as whats surrounding it. The MSI 390x actually runs cooler than the 970 (and 980) by a significant amount, overclocks great compared to the 290x and stock 970 and outperforms the 980 in a lot of cases and 970 in all. Although unlike the 390x the 390 doesn't really trade that many blows with the 980, it beats the 970 in pretty much everything thrown at them.

For the record it also has much better specifications (incl. shaders, etc but those arent shown here) than the 290x with a much lower TDP.

@BlueScreen I know the 390 is a better card than the 970. I know plenty about computers, I've built tons for my local pc repair place. I got it for only 250$, that's why. I got a hookup from my internship.

@Alex I got the Corsair 750w psu because I plan to do Sli in the future. Don't worry mang. Oh btw. I was going to get a 290x. I bidded on one on Ebay. The buyer didn't come through and I had to do some annoying legal shit. I gave up and ordered the 970.
