Painting my car soon. #1
So obviously the original owners did not take care of the paint on my 2003 Dodge Neon and failed to protect it with wax. Due to that the clear coat is peeling bad on the roof, hood, parts of the trunk, etc.

I decided to do what a few people have done and it worked successfully for them is use a Wagner Control Spray Double Duty electric paint gun and re-paint my car with Rustoleum.

I will make a simple out-door paint booth with plastic sheeting and PVC pipe or 2 by 4's. Add a box fan and some industrial filters for negative air pressure.

Paint will be Rustoleum Safety Red (High performance protective enamel)
Whatever clear coat I can come by.

And I will probably just primer it with some rattle cans.

I am not looking for a top notch paint job, just something that will last and look decent.

just remember a good paint job is like 90% prep. I'd like to know how your paint booth idea works because I've thought of doing something similar.

It will be a little bit before I do it. But it should work just like a normal paint booth.

Add industrial filters and one far end and 1 or two box fans at the other. The box fans suck the dirty are out while the filters let the clean air in.

And my prep would be some 120 grit sand paper to get the clear coat/top layers of paint off, then move up to a 500 to start smoothing it out then a final 1000 grit sanding.

All with a orbital sander. Give it a good rinse, let it dry for a day, then give it a quick wipe down to remove any dust/particles and start the primer, then give the primer 1 hour to dry, shoot it with the paint, give the paint 2 hours to dry then shoot it with the clear. Give it a day before driving it or pulling it out of the booth. Take it easy with it for about a week to let it fully cure then give it a light buffing.
