Cloning Windows 8.1 on to a HP Compaq DC77100 SFF with CloneZilla #1
Off Topic: This isn't a tutorial for anyone else. If you can use this a resource, good for you. But this is just me sharing my accomplishment. Also, I didn't include how we made the image, just how we used it. I'm currently learning about CZ, so I figured that I might as well share my progress with you guys.

I wasn't sure whether I should put this in the Windows or Linux sub-forum either. I thought that it would fit better with Linux considering that I did this all via Linux (CZ and PM are Linux, too!)

Project: Cloning Windows 8.1 on to another system with CloneZilla.

What is the exactly?
What you’re about to read is a step-by-step walkthrough that will tell you how I successfully recreated partitions, and “cloned” Windows 8.1 on to another system so I was able to have two computers with Windows 8.1 rather than just one,

Before I could start the cloning process, I had to recreate the partitions so that it was a NTFS, also so that Windows 8.1 would be able to actually ‘fit’ on to the computer. According to Urban Dictonary, a partition is a space of the hard drive allocated for the operating system. NTFS (New Technology File System) is a proprietary file system developed by Microsoft.

Once I recreated the partitions, I executed the cloning process with a freeware called CloneZilla. Clonezilla is a partition and disk imaging/cloning program similar to True ImageÂŽ or Norton GhostÂŽ. It helps you to do system deployment, bare metal backup and recovery, but you can also use it in a situation where you need multiple machines with the exact same data, for example a school with students who require the same programs and files would need to have every one of their computers on their network to be the exact same.

Resources:
CZ Reference: http://clonezilla.org/
PM Reference: http://partedmagic.com/

System Used (Google for specs):
HP Compaq DC77100 SFF

Objective:
Apply our CloneZilla image to a device and set it up to have a fully operational copy of our Widows 8.1 and requested applications.

Preparations put in place to make the CZ partitions ‘fit’ on the system:
Our Win XP boxes natively had smaller sized partitions. We needed these to be bigger in order to support our clones. To make the partitions bigger, we used Parted Magic. We deleted the partitions and created new, larger (in size) partitions to take their place. CloneZilla specifically works more efficiently when the destination drive is larger than the source.

To be specific, we made the smaller partition go from a size of ~150 MB’s to a size of 1000MB and used the rest of the unallocated memory for the other partition.

Exact process that I used to setup this clone in CloneZilla (not including images):
Creating CZ image (windows 8.1 - 64 bit)
Boot with CZ USB - on first screen choose "Clonezilla Live" (default settings)
english
dont touch keymap
start clonezilla (non-shell)
device-image
Samba Server - Use Samba
dhcp (network config.)
enter IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x'd out numbers) of share Images folder on XP box
do not enter domain info
admini
/Images
ntlm Use NTLM password hashing
enter for OK
enter admini password
Enter to Continue
Expert mode
restoredisk - Restore an image to local disk
"image_name" 2014-09-15-08-Win81-64-l176
* apperas beside drive (*) sda 250GB_ST3250...)
select "-icds", leave the other options set as their default
tab down to OK and enter
use the partition table from the image
-p shutdown (shutdowns client when clone is finished)
y (continue in terminal)
y (continue in terminal)
Enter to continue (in terminal)
Creation takes about 40 minutes, ~44GB of OS and All TV system apps only @ 1.19GB/min (approx.)
Power system on and enjoy your new Windows 8.1 clone!

... It worked!

Updated a bunch of documentation here.
I also just realized that CloneZilla actually comes pre-loaded into PartedMagic, so I want to expirement and see if I can clone Windows 8.1 using the CZ that comes pre-loaded into PartedMagic. I'm not sure whether it'll work or not.

Updates coming soon.
