Monthly fees don't work unless you're big already for certain servers.
Your best bet is to sell donator ranks with advantages like certain kits on different game modes, more claim blocks, more homes. Stuff like that.

I would have to also suggest to have donation ranks. This will give people more of an incentive to spend money. Another thing you could also do is have one time packages that include a group of items as well so it gives more opportunities for people to spend their money on you.
One thing I'm really big on are skyblocks, they keep the resources limited and make it even more of an incentive to buy ranks.
Also, make sure to segregate the donations for each server type so to expand more on monies.....hope that helps.

The majority of Minecraft players won't be down to pay a monthly fee. IMO It's best to make new servers for Donors and give them a few custom prefixes. I feel that this combo would incorage more people to donate to you to keep your service alive.

or something that will be given to everyone once a monthly cap of $$$ is reached from donations.
