Bukkit vs Spigot 07-24-2014, 04:53 PM
#1
So as some of you may know I've been running a minecraft server for the past couple weeks. This server is bukkit. I recently read an article that said some great things about spigot. I guess my question is should I switch? Is it worth it? Will the same plugins that I had for bukkit work for spigot? Are there any special/cool plugins that are spigot specific? Are things easier than bukkit? Sorry but there are just so many questions I have about this. Anyone with experience please reply or pm me!

My friends play Minecraft, I don't really, I just host it on one of my servers. They told me that all big servers use Spigot because of the performance. I therefore am using it too. I'm not an expert so I can't really give you a lot of information but its basically an 'optimised' client.

Spigot is amazing performance wise, It sometimes give ram savings of 100% where it could go from 1GB to 500MB. Same as for CPU=,
Spigot adds more options to the server.properties including built in (per-world and configurable) Orebfusticator (Anti X-Ray). Also it has the rainstorm frequencies and strengths and at which growth rates the crops grow.
If you're running a home server I don't know if it's really worth it but if you run on a dedicated server definitely go from Bukkit > Spigot.
Bukkit plugins will work on spigot yes.
Source: I have 2 friends who run seperate minecraft communities with a steady playerbase of 180 - 200 players in the mid-days and evenings.
