Hello,

So Ive lately been interested into game engines since I want to make 3d games.However I have come to a point where I don't know which game engine to choose.Cry engine or Unreal engine.Both of these game engines are really good and do not cost that much.If theres anyone out here who has some experience with these 2 game engines or other better ones, please post a comment on your opinion.

They say that Cry is REALLY cool... but I believe Unreal has been in the market for long enough to build it's solid huge community, which provides great tutorials, documentation, help, materials, examples... etc.

I wanted to test Cry but unfortunately I don;t have a good PC to work on 3d stuff (except for playing simple ones)

I'd go with Cry Engine, It's monthly subscription is 10 dollars cheaper than Unreal engine (Cry Engine's Monthly sub is only 9 dollars)
Besides, some of my favorite games are made with Cry Engine 3.

Both are good but I like Unreal better, Tom Clancy's The Division is being made in Unreal Engine

@Eleven , although I have no experience with Unreal Engine so I cannot tell you which game engine you should choose, I saw the development process with CryENGINE and it looked amazing. Some friends of mine, however prefer Source Engine. I have personally developed some lesser Source Engine projects and I can say it's an excellent engine with great potential. Furthermore, Valve often takes up, which I think is a beau geste, the promising projects of smaller teams (or single developers).

I advise you the same I was advised by a professional game developer before to get acquainted with more engines and if you have some experience, choose and focus on the one you like the most.

In addition, don't forget to come back and share your opinion because you could help people who will be in your situation in the future (and because I'm curious)

EDIT: It also matters what game you would like to create so could you please tell us more about your plan (Except if it's something secret and you hide it with good reason, haha.)?

As cited in an article I've read recently about Choosing the "right" engine between, Unity, UDK, UE4 and CryEngine:

@Doma, thanks for the post.Ive been thinking about source engine however I haven't seen many games that are made with it besides the ones Valve makes and mods for Garrys mod and stuff.Is source engine free for anyone to use or is it Valve's secret weapon for their games.As for the game Im planning to make, beast graphics quality won't be necessary because Im thinking of games with a similar design to ones in TF2 and such.If its possible to make a stunning game like TF2 or Garrys mod with Cry engine or Unreal, I want to go with one of them.

You're welcome. When we discuss Source Engine, most people think of Valve's popular titles like Counter-Strike : Source, Half-life games and Garry's mod. You can see a part of the powerful lot of potential that this game engine has in these games (not only from graphical viewpoint). However, when it comes to graphics, people often say CryENGINE, Unreal Engine and so on like if Source Engine wouldn't be capable of creating fantastic graphics. It's untrue. Take Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for instance. Maybe its graphics are not as realistic as CryENGINE's (For example), but in my view, it's still nice. Creating such great graphics necessitates artful developer(s) too who realise the content. To sum it up, I believe all of the mentioned engines are capable of offering an appropriate graphical support for your game and in order to choose the one that you like the most I advise you to consider checking the game engines from other viewpoints too than graphics and look on the whole.
